Installing Pergo Over Carpet

Some pergo laminate products feature attached underlayment. Plywood is highly recommended when installing over high pile carpet. If you have severe allergies stirring up all the dust and dirt that may be settled into the carpet could keep you sneezing for weeks. If you re laying pergo over concrete remove all carpet trim and other things covering the sub floor to expose the concrete underneath. When placing plywood sheets over plush carpet lay them in the opposite direction the floor will go. Installing laminate flooring over carpet is not recommended in most installation situations. Pergo can be installed directly over most hard surface flooring.

Pergo floors can be walked on as soon as they re installed. You can re install the molding afterward or install a pergo shoe molding that matches the floor. Since carpet is usually plush and soft your laminate flooring would not have the support it needs to keep the locking system sturdy. If you are using more than one sheet of plywood tape the sheets together at the seam.

Why not just tear up the carpet. No glue no nails no mess. Homeowners may not want to go to all the trouble of tearing up carpet and padding. Before laying pergo it s a good idea to smooth out the concrete to make sure that you ve got the flattest surface possible for the new installation.

Pergo hardwood must be installed above grade.
